Summary: There are some 4K Ultra HD movies available for HDR on Netflix. Here we will show you how to access 4K HDR content on Netflix, list the best 4K HDR movies and recommend you a great 4K player.

Netflix has a reputation for being an excellent place to binge-watch entire seasons of awesome TV shows without any interruptions. But while binge-watching is what most people use Netflix for, there’s an ever-growing percentage of viewers that subscribe to the service almost exclusively for the movies. Not just any movies, mind you, but movies available to watch in glorious 4K HDR (high dynamic range) quality. Unfortunately, sometimes it can be a bit tricky to find these movies but don’t worry because we’re here to help. With that in mind, let’s first talk a bit about how you can access Netflix HDR content and then we’re going to list some of the best HDR movies on Netflix available right now. We’re also going to discuss our favorite 4K multimedia player so make sure to read until the end.

Part 1: How to Access 4K HDR Content on Netflix

 1. This goes without saying but in order to enjoy Netflix HDR content you’re going to need a TV capable of playing 4K HDR media. This technology hasn’t been around for very long so the TV would have to be a fairly recent model. If you’re not sure about your TV’s capabilities you can always check the user manual or look up the model online.

2. In addition to a compatible 4K TV with HDR capabilities, you’ll naturally also going to need a Netflix subscription. The caveat here is that not Netflix HDR content is only available to those who subscribe to the service’s Premium plan. While this is the most expensive plan, it’s actually only a bit pricier when compared to the other options. The Premium plan comes with a few other perks but accessing the HDR content is easily the most important one.

3. A solid internet connection is an absolute must if you plan to enjoy Netflix HDR content. Netflix recommends consistent speeds of around 25 Mbps for a smooth 4K experience. You can get a good experience even if your connection is a bit slower but anything lower than 16 Mbps is very likely to cause buffering issues.

4. Last but not least, you need to know which movies are available in 4K HDR quality and which aren’t. It can be a bit confusing to find out this information on Netflix itself at the moment so you may need to visit third-party websites that do a better job at keeping track of these things. For now, though, you can start with our list of best HDR movies on Netflix and then move on from there.

Part 2: Top 10 4K HDR Movies on Netflix Right Now

The Siege of Jadotville

The Jamueville siege occurred in September 1961, during the United Nations intervention in the Katanga conflict in Central African Congo-Leopoldville. The "A" company, the 35th Battalion (United Nations Officer) of the ONUC Task Force of the Irish Army, was attacked by the Katanga gendarmerie loyal to Katangese Prime Minister Moise Tshombe. The light-armed Irish soldiers besieged in Jadotville (modern Likasi) resisted the Katangese attack for six days, as the rescue forces of the Irish, Indian and Swedish forces failed to reach the Irish forces successfully. It is one of the best 4K HDR movies  on Netflix.

Okja

This touching South Korean movie centers on young Mija, a young girl who befriends a very unusual creature known as Okja. Despite being docile and friendly, the beast eventually gets captured and transported to the United States. It’s now up to Mija to rescue her friend and take Okja back home.

Death Note

Death Note is a 2017 American supernatural horror-thriller film loosely adapted from the Japanese manga of the same name created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. It follows the story of an American high school student named Light Turner, who finds a mysterious supernatural notebook known as the "Death Note". The 4K HDR movie has a high rating on IMDB.

Naked

Naked is a 2017 4K HDR Netflix movie, and it is a remake of the 2000 Swedish film Naken. Rob Anderson is all set to marry the girl of his dreams, but can't quite get to the altar. He finds himself caught in a time loop, waking up naked in a hotel elevator over and over again.

Chasing Coral

While not technically a movie, this incredible documentary is well worth your time and absolutely perfect for testing your TV’s HDR capabilities. The documentary follows a team of divers investigating the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of coral reefs around the globe.

The Babysitter

The Babysitter is one of many HDR movies on Netflix that are exclusive to the platform. The plot here revolves around a little boy who falls in love with his babysitter and starts spying on her. Things soon take a turn for the sinister when he discovers that the girl has a dark secret and he’s willing to kill in order to protect it.

Sandy Wexler

Sandy Wexler is a 2017 American comedy film directed by Steven Brill and written by Dan Bulla, Paul Sado and Adam Sandler. It tells a story that an unfortunate but dedicated talent manager signed his first truly talented client, and then his career finally began to take off.

The Do Over

Do-Over is a  4K HDR movie directed by Steven Brill, written by Kevin Barnett and Chris Pappas. The film follows Charlie (David Spider) and Max (Adam Sandler) and they are suspended to restart their death. However, when they find that the identity of the deceased they use involves criminal activities, the situation will be problematic.

War Machine

War Machine is a wartime comedy starring Brad Pitt as a US general sent to Afghanistan to finally “win” the war. His mission ends up being more difficult than initially expected as the US army’s presence in Afghanistan is more about politics than about fighting opposing forces.

Bright

Bright has to be one of the most divisive HDR movies on Netflix at this point. One on hand, there are critics who see it as an uninspired mess riddled with plot holes. On the other hand, a lot of people appreciated the uniqueness of the film’s modern fantasy setting. After all, there aren’t many movies out there where orcs and elves work side by side with humans in modern-day Lost Angeles.

Part 3: The Best 4K Player to Play 4K Videos in HDR 10 Quality

Although there are some good HDR movies on Netflix, the platform is still missing a lot of great titles at the moment. A lot of these movies aren’t available online so you’ll need to watch them the old fashioned way using a multimedia player. One of the only players that plays 4K videos with HDR10 quality and supports Ultra HD Blu-ray movies with HDR 10 is DVDFab Player 5. The player also supports a wide variety of other formats as well as navigation menus for all types of DVD and Blu-ray discs. DVDFab Player 5 also offers two different playback modes, one designed for PCs and one that’s perfect for big screen TVs.

Conclusion

There’s a lot of great HDR content on Netflix available at the moment, with even more movies and TV shows being added almost every day. Despite that, it’s going to take a while longer until you will be able to watch all your favorite content on Netflix. In the meantime, you can still watch high-quality 4K content by using DVDFab Player 5, the best multimedia player with HDR 10 support.
